Elisa Pantano

Elisa was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Perugia in 2013, with a final thesis on Acute Myeloid Leukemia, conducted in the laboratory of Protein Biochemistry and Hematology, at Perugia Hospital Santa Maria della Misericordia.
In the autumn of the same year she started her Master course in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the University of Perugia and in 2015 she moved to Glaxo Smith Kline Vaccines, Siena, to conduct her Master’s degree experimental work. The studies performed on Neisseria Heparin Binding Antigen, in order to develop my Master’s degree gave her the opportunity to study in vitro the activities of this antigen, which is implicated in Bexsero vaccine.
Since 2016 she have been working as Associate Scientist in Glaxo Smith Kline Vaccines, Siena.
During these years she had the opportunity to gain experience in the purification and characterization of the main proteins component of the Bexsero vaccine against Meningococcus B, and in the development of serological assays to test the efficacy of Group B Streptococcus and Gonococcus’ vaccine candidates.
Working in this projects allowed her to achieve a specific knowledge in analytical characterization of antigens and their purification; furthermore, the last years in GSK permitted her to focus on serological assays and increase her ability of setting-up and developing immunoenzymatic assay for the detection of antibodies against different pathogens.
In April 2020 she joined the team led by Dr. Rino Rappuoli at Fondazione Toscana Life Sciences (TLS), in Siena.
