Samuele Stazzoni

Samuele Stazzoni obtained his Bachelor Degree in Chemistry at the University of Siena (Italy) in 2013 and his Master Degree in Chemistry at the University of Florence (Italy) in 2015, with a thesis on peptide Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Anna Maria Papini. Between 03/2013 and 07/2013 he was visiting student at the King’s College London (UK) in Dr. Sarah Barry’s group.
In September 2015 he started his PhD in the group of Prof. Thomas Carell at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich (Germany), with a “Marie Curie ESR” Fellowship in the training network “ClickGene”. During his PhD he worked in the Chemical Biology field, with a focus on nucleic acids. In particular, he designed and synthesised a series of nucleic acid analogues that can activate the innate immune system to initiate interferon expression and contributed to the development of chemistry-based biological and diagnostic assays to detect specific DNA sequences or epigenetic nucleosides. During his PhD he became expert in the application of bio-orthogonal and bio-compatible chemical reactions to biological systems with the aim of creatin bioactive pharmaceutical compounds or to design biological assays.
In October 2020 Samuele moved back to Siena to work as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the “Monoclonal Antibody Discovery Laboratory” (MAD Lab), coordinated by Dr. Rino Rappuoli at Fondazione Toscana Life Sciences.
