TRANSCAN-4
General Aspects
TRANSCAN-4 is a project co-funded by the European Commission, marking a new milestone in a well-established path of European collaboration aimed at advancing translational cancer research. Building on the achievements of the previous phases (TRANSCAN-1 to TRANSCAN-3), the project will launch four Joint Transnational Calls (JTCs) to support highly impactful and collaborative cancer research projects across Europe and internationally.
In addition to funding research, TRANSCAN-4 seeks to foster greater patient involvement in cancer research activities and create new opportunities for early-career researchers. Another key objective is to expand the partnership by engaging new funding organizations from both Europe and beyond. The overarching goal is to further strengthen research efforts and ensure they deliver tangible outcomes that effectively address patients’ needs.
Project Activities
The long-term vision of TRANSCAN is aligned with the objectives of the EU Mission on Cancer Implementation Plan and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Fondazione Toscana Life Sciences (TLS) is involved in the project, particularly through two work packages:
Impact Assessment – aimed at understanding and measuring the positive impact of TRANSCAN-4 funding on cancer research and its outcomes.
Capacity Building – TLS will organize training courses and workshops focused on key topics for researchers, including intellectual property protection, technology transfer, and regulatory affairs. These are essential elements for translating research results into innovations that can ultimately benefit patients.
