The TLS Foundation<\/strong> is involved in numerous PNRR <\/strong>(National Recovery and Resilience Plan) and PNC<\/strong> (National Plan for Complementary Investments) projects, which are key opportunities for the life sciences ecosystem development. More specifically, TLS is involved in promoting and strengthening the cooperation between the research field, the productive system, and the regional and national institutions. The Tuscany Health Ecosystem<\/strong> (THE)<\/strong> is one of the 11 nationally funded innovation ecosystems, but, differently from the others, is entirely dedicated to life sciences. The main goal of the project is to stimulate and support the growth and the consolidation of the life sciences ecosystem in Tuscany through a multidisciplinary approach, specialized skills, cross-contamination of technology and knowledge, and efficient communication between researchers, clinicians, and companies. The THE<\/strong> aims to respond to the needs of the life sciences field in terms of innovation and education, thus allowing for the consolidation of the regional ecosystem and its competitiveness on a regional, national, and global level. The subjects of interest of the Tuscany Health Ecosystem are advanced radiotherapies and diagnostics in oncology, preventive and predictive medicine, state-of-the-art technologies, methods, and materials for human health and wellbeing, nanotechnologies for diagnostics and therapies, innovation for health and wellbeing, precision medicine and personalized healthcare, innovation in translational medicine, biotechnologies and imaging in neurosciences, robotics and automation, and people\u2019s wellness. HEAL Italia<\/strong> – Health Extended ALliance for Innovative Therapies, Advanced Lab-research, and Integrated Approaches of Precision Medicine, HEAL ITALIA <\/strong><\/a>is the first national chain focused on research and innovation in precision medicine<\/strong>. The TLS Foundation is involved as one of the 24 partners from 11 different Italian regions. The project is part of one of the 14 extended partnerships envisioned by \u201cDalla Ricerca all\u2019Impresa\u201d, 2nd<\/sup> component of the 4th<\/sup> mission of the NRPP, with the aim of investing in innovation clusters to strengthen the research sector on a national scale and promote their involvement in European and global value chains. The HEAL ITALIA<\/strong><\/a> project, which has a budget of 114.7 million euros, has been proposed by the University of Palermo (as leading proponent) and other 11 Universities, 5 Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalisation and Health Care, 6 companies, one research foundation and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Scientists, technologists and young researchers aim at sharing and developing knowledge, studies and innovative technologies through a holistic and multidisciplinary approach in order to bring state-of-the-art Precision Medicine into the Italian Health Service thanks to innovative methods, innovative services and, above all, a valuable network of clinical data in support of translational research for advanced diagnostics and therapies in the fight against cancer and cardiovascular, metabolic and rare diseases.<\/p>\n

The Life Science TTO Network<\/strong> project, funded under the \u201cEcosistemi innovativi della salute \u2013 Rete di centri di trasferimento tecnologico\u201d <\/strong>program (complementary fundings), led by the Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS, aims at creating and consolidating a network of technology transfer centers<\/strong> in order to strengthen the Italian Health Service. The project will last 42 months, and the TLS Foundation is involved as 2nd<\/sup> level Spoke, member of the Project Committee and, through the UVaR office (Ufficio per la Valorizzazione della Ricerca, lit. office for the enhancement of research), supporter of the participation of Territorial Technical Offices, institutions pertaining to the Regional Health Service and Tuscany\u2019s Universities in the project. Funds receives: 15 million euros (100K for TLS Foundation).<\/p>\n

The Life Science TTO NETWORK,<\/strong> named \u201cPerfeTTO<\/strong>\u201d, sees the involvement of I and II level Spoke located throughout Italy. Its aim is to promote technology transfer activities and the creation of new innovative start-ups and spin-offs in the life sciences sector. Existing technology transfer facilities such as Technology Transfer Offices<\/strong> (TTOs) of Universities and Public Research Institutions, facilities operating in several Institutes for Treatment and Research and other NHS entities, regional TTOs, and networks of TT Offices will be pooled and systematised, integrating and providing technical support. 54 associates<\/strong>, including Institutes for Treatment and Research, universities, public and private bodies, all organized into Level I and Level II HUBs and Spokes, are participating in the project. The Centro Cardiologico Monzino in Milan, the Istituto Romagnolo per lo Studio dei Tumori \u201cDino Amadori\u201d and the Institute for Treatment and Research \u201cSaverio de Bellis\u201d will represent the whole national network. The aim of the project is to build an innovative health ecosystem through the creation of clinical-translational research networks of excellence within the National Health Service, capable of pooling available technologies and existing expertise. The project is part of the cascading calls for proposals under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Spoke 8 of the VITALITY project (\u201cInnovation, digitalization, and sustainability for the diffuse economy in Central Italy\u201d (Code ECS_00000041, CUP H33C22000430006), funded by the European Union \u2013 NextGenerationEU through PNRR funds \u2013 Mission 4 \u2013 Component 2 \u2013 Investment 1.5; coordinated by the University of Urbino, which supports high-impact initiatives in the fields of health, well-being, and sustainability, leveraging the synergy between academia and industry.<\/p>\n

Spoke 8<\/strong> – Innovative Therapeutic Approaches: New Chemical Entities, Biologics, and Drug Delivery<\/p>\n

Pisamunab Project Objective<\/strong>: To create an advanced platform for the generation and selection of human monoclonal antibodies and nanobodies<\/strong>, using libraries derived from COVID patients and tools from AI, bioinformatics, and synthetic biology.<\/p>\n

The project aims to create an integrated platform for the development and characterization of human monoclonal antibodies and nanobodies for biomedical applications, utilizing libraries of human antibody sequences derived from patients who have been vaccinated against or have recovered from COVID-19. The project is divided into three work packages: the first concerns the provision and analysis of antibody libraries, the second concerns the construction and selection of humanized single-domain antibodies, and the third concerns the production and evaluation of proof-of-concept antibodies. The project utilizes advanced digital technologies, such as synthetic biology, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence, to optimize the processes of humanization, maturation, and engineering of antibodies. The project aims to generate scientific, economic, technological, and social impact by contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of monoclonal antibodies
\nand nanobodies, the creation of new products and services for the healthcare sector, the enhancement of partners\u2019 expertise and infrastructure, and the promotion of public health and the prevention of infectious diseases.<\/p>\n

The Fondazione Toscana Life Sciences is building a virtual library of human monoclonal antibodies, starting with a collection of gene sequences from antibodies isolated from human donors.
