Fabiola Vacca

Fabiola is a PhD student of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Doctoral Programme at the University of Siena and joined Dr. Rappuoli’s research group at TLS (Siena,IT) in October 2019.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Bioscience and Biotechnology from the University of Camerino and later studied Medical Biotechnologies (MSc) at the University of Siena. Through her Master’s thesis, which focused on the development of a peptide as a new potential drug against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, she became interested in translational research. In particular, how to deal with drug-resistance and develop strategies to overcome it. After graduation, she worked for 6 months at the Epigenetics Department at The Babraham Institute (Cambridge,UK) as an Erasmus trainee. Her main focus was questioning the mechanisms of acquired resistance to MEK inhibitors in colorectal cancer cells and the role of copy number variation (CNV) of oncogenes.

Her main interests are: molecular microbiology and genetic engineering, immunotherapy and everything which has to do with microscopy and imaging.
