Giorgio Ciano

Giorgio Ciano received his Master’s degree in Computer and Automation Engineering from the University of Siena (Italy) in 2018. In the same year, he started his doctorate in Smart Computing at the University of Florence (Italy), obtaining his PhD degree in 2022. During this period, he gained a lot of experience in the field of Machine Learning and Deep Learning. In particular, Giorgio specialized in the use of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), applied to various domains, from social networks to protein-protein interaction. Moreover, for the drafting of his doctoral thesis, entitled “Multi-stage generation for segmentation of medical images,” he worked on the generation and semantic segmentation of biomedical images. The main applications involved images of the ocular fundus and chest X-rays. Giorgio currently holds the position of researcher at the Data Science for Health (DaScH) Lab located within the Toscana Life Sciences Foundation (TLS). He is mainly involved in the analysis of confocal microscope images of pathogenic bacteria and Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms applied to amino acid sequences.
